Ty's Spinner comes in two variations to match what's actually on the water at different times of day. And yes — this is one of the very few situations in life where assuming gender is not only acceptable, it's absolutely required. Pick the wrong one and the fish will let you know — not with any drama or fanfare, just the quiet indifference of a trout that has decided to keep moving and mind its own business. Which, if you've ever been ignored by a fish, you know is somehow worse.

Male – Black Abdomen

The males are on the water first. Fish the Male Spinner during the early morning hours when the males are swarming and beginning to fall. The dark black abdomen is easy to match and easy to justify — trout eat them confidently when they're present.

Female – Pale Olive

As the morning progresses, the females return to the water to lay their eggs — and then they fall spent. Switch to the Female Spinner in the late morning to match the egg-laying females as they drift helpless in the film. The pale olive coloring is softer and more translucent, just like the naturals.
