The Blowtorch already demands attention — the Flashback Blowtorch makes it impossible to look away. Built on the same proven Walt's Worm Blowtorch foundation, this version adds a strip of pearl tinsel running the entire length of the back, creating a continuous flash point that catches light with every micro-movement in the current.

That pearl flashback does more than just look good. It mimics the reflective sheen of a gas bubble or the translucent back of a natural nymph, giving trout one more reason to commit. And unlike the original Blowtorch, the hotspot collar behind the bead has been left off — because we're trying to catch fish, not send them into a full-blown anxiety spiral. The original has two hotspots. This one has one. Turns out, there's a fine line between "irresistible" and "too much going on," and we found it.

Paired with the orange hotspot tag at the tail and wire ribbing, this fly still has plenty of trigger — just dialed back enough to let the flashback do the heavy lifting.

Tied on a Firehole Outdoors 516 barbless jig hook with a tungsten bead, it sinks fast, rides hook-point-up, and drifts with the natural, undulating movement that trout can't leave alone. Fish it as a point fly in a two-nymph rig, dead-drift it through a deep run, or bounce it along the bottom where the big fish hold.

How it differs from the original Blowtorch:

  • Adds: Pearl tinsel flashback running the full length of the back
  • Removes: Hotspot collar behind the bead — for the trout who need a little less stimulation in their life
  • Hook: Firehole Outdoors 516 Barbless Jig Hook
  • Bead: Tungsten
  • Flashback: Pearl tinsel — full length of the back
  • Rib: Copper wire
  • Hotspot Tag: Orange (tail)
  • Imitates: Crane fly larvae, aquatic worms, egg-trailing nymphs
  • Style: Barbless — catch-and-release ready
  • Hand-tied by Ty's Flies
