Ugly Walt's Worm
Walt's Worm Got a Little Weird. Trout Love It.
The classic Walt's Worm is already one of the most reliable worm imitations in fly fishing — simple, buggy, and devastatingly effective. The Ugly Walt's Worm takes that proven foundation and adds a peeping caddis-style tail that gives the fly an extra dimension of realism. That little bit of material peeking out the back suggests a worm or larva partially emerged from its case, and trout that have seen every standard pattern in the box often can't help themselves.
What's in the Pattern
- Hook - Firehole Sticks 633 Barbless
- Peeping caddis-style tail — the "ugly" detail that makes all the difference; suggests a larva emerging from its case and triggers strikes on pressured fish
- Wire-ribbed body — clean segmentation that adds a natural, lifelike profile and reinforces the fly for durability
- Green and red color options — cover a range of worm and larva imitations across different water conditions
- Hand-tied at Ty's Flies with consistent proportions in every size
When Standard Worm Patterns Aren't Cutting It
Drop it as a point fly on a euro rig, trail it behind a heavier anchor, or fish it under an indicator through slower runs. The peeping tail adds just enough visual interest to turn lookers into takers. Available in sizes 12–16.
