Ty's Cutter
Built on the bones of the E/C Cutter's Caddis, Ty's Cutter takes a proven emerger silhouette and refines it for the demands of technical dry fly fishing. The signature hi-viz orange parachute post solves one of the original pattern's biggest drawbacks — a small hair wing that disappears on the water, especially during the low light hours of early morning and evening hatches when caddis activity peaks.
Extra hackle wraps give this fly the floatation to stay in the film through riffles and pocket water, while the low-riding profile keeps it right where emerging caddis live — in and just below the surface. A trailing shuck seals the deal, signaling a vulnerable insect mid-hatch. The two-tone body adds just enough contrast to suggest segmentation without overdressing the fly.
Available in two proven colorways:
- Olive/Green — Olive body and shuck with a caddis green thorax. A close match to the natural, built for selective fish and clear water situations.
- Tan/Red — Tan body and shuck with a red thorax. A departure from the natural that has proven consistently effective, especially when fish need a little extra trigger.
- Hi viz orange parachute post for easy tracking in low light and broken water
- Extra hackle wraps for improved floatation in fast water
- Low-riding profile — rides in the film, not on top of it
- Trailing shuck for a convincing emerger presentation
- Two-tone body for natural segmentation and contrast
Fish it dead-drift through seams and tailouts during caddis hatches, or give it a subtle twitch to trigger hesitant risers. A go-to when fish are looking up but won't commit to a high-riding dry.
